The tach don't really care, because it blocks the DC and flips its switch when the AC goes past a certain threshold each cycle. If you read 13 volts AC on that wire, the tach should read. WebMay 28, 2014 · The tach on my 2006 QX56 is very erratic. When I start the engine it may act normal, go down (counterclockwise) instead of up, go to 7,000, or any combination. It will sometimes go up or down in line with engine revs but with no real relevance to actual rpm (ex. 800rpm at 60mph). WebJan 11, 2004 · The original tach system on this airplane is nothing but a speedometer with a drive cable. The cable is made of an outer sheath with an inner, twisted wire drive cable. That inner cable can become worn and when a strand or two breaks then they wad up and start dragging. The result is an erratic reading on an otherwise serviceable tach indicator.

Remove the tachometer carefully and tighten the plastic screw being careful not to over tighten.
